Well, that was fun, wasn’t it?
All the talk of Inter coming in on a post-Benitez hot streak and Juve still struggling to find some more? Gone. Gigi Delneri had his side prepared in every aspect of the game and they were clearly the better side against arch-rival Inter Milan.
Alessandro Matri continued his dream start to his Juve career, scoring for the third time in two games with a powerful header.
And after that, it was pure brilliance on defense as Juve kept the on-form Inter attack scoreless. Right to left — Frederik Sorensen, Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini — the defense was top-notch.
Competent strikers and a compact defense? Oh how much you’ve been missed.
Well done, Mister Delneri.
Random Thought Dump:
1. Speaking of Sorensen, have a night. Eighteen years old, matched up against Inter’s No. 1 striking in Samuel Eto’o, and the kid didn’t even flinch.
Oh, and that cross he had today needs to happen more often. Simply perfect.
2. How would this game had gone if Felipe Melo hadn’t played.
Sure he’s a head case, everybody knows that, but you can’t deny how crucial he was to Juve’s victory today. He absolutely controlled the midfield.
3. Luca Toni didn’t get his name on the scoresheet, but damn he worked his tail off.
4. Milos Krasic still needs a break for a week or two. We’re all waiting for 2010 Milos to return.
